Legs & Co. – More Than a Woman

Top of the Pops, 11 May 1978: Legs & Co. dance to Tavares’ More Than A Woman.

In those pre-music video days, American soul / disco performers like Tavares couldn’t get across the pond to promote every UK hit. Since this type of music was specifically created for dancing, it naturally formed the core of Legs & Co.’s performance repertoire.

This number, a well-made pleasant (if unremarkable) disco ditty, has little in the way of subject matter to inspire creativity, either in set & costume design or choreography. Still Flick does very nicely, with a routine allowing spotlight performances from each dancer, and I can’t complain about the individually tailored black fabric & lace outfits.

I don’t know why there’s a huge taoist yin/yang symbol suspended over them: perhaps it’s just part of the general TOTP set decoration, but I can’t remember seeing it in any other performances of the time.

Thanks to ASmK for the Youtube post.
