Pan’s People – Mama’s Pearl

Top of the Pops, 29 April 1971: Pan’s People dance to Mama’s Pearl by The Jackson Five.

From the old blog, Tuesday, 16 November 2010:

Here’s an early Pan’s People routine, from 1971 (Look! Flick dancing! And Andi too!) The song’s Mama’s Pearl by The Jacksons.
Dig those flesh-coloured go-go boots!

Thanks to Andeebee for the YouTube post.

Pan’s People – Running Away

27 April 1972: Pan’s People dance to Running Away by Sly and the Family Stone

Thanks to ASmK for the YouTube post.

From the old blog, Saturday, 23 April 2011:

Here’s a vintage filmed-on-location routine, from Pan’s People, dancing to Sly & the Family Stone’s Running Away. They’re having fun in a deserted department store: it’s a bit like “Dawn of The Dead” without the zombies.

Thanks to new contributor Katy Miss Queenie for sending a clip of this routine.

Really nice to see a Pans routine out of the studio. Not Sly’s best effort though. Thanks Katy for sharing this.

Pans People – The Entertainer

Pan’s People dance to “The Entertainer” by Marvin Hamlisch. Top of the Pops, 18-04-74.

Here’s a clip I first posted on the old blog in October 2014, not long before the Copyright Gestapo shut it down. Alas, the wonderful archive.org, where I’ve been digging up gems from my old posts, only have the resources to scan each of the world’s web sites every few months: consequently they have no record of my last few months of posts for me to resurrect.

Top of the Pops was always more about “what’s popular” than “what’s cool”: which often made for an eclectic collection of whatever happened to be in the charts. So when The Sting was such a big hit movie ion 1974, this version of Scott Joplin’s theme music was a surprise hit, and Pan’s People got a chance to display their versatility.

Many thanks to the generous donor, who asked to remain anonymous.

Pan’s People – Homely Girl

TOTP, 4 April 1974: Pan’s People dance to the Chi-lites Homely Girl.

From the old blog, Monday 26 July 2010:

I’m surprised I haven’t got around to posting this little gem of literal choreography until now. To celebrate my return to life with a third post in one day, here’s Pan’s People transforming from dungarees and marker-pen freckles (“Homely Girl”) to fur-fringed baby-doll nighties and silver slippers (“You’re a beautiful woman’). To the music of the Chi-lites.

Thanks once again to Einsfestival for the rebroadcast.

Pan’s People – Hot Love

Top of the Pops, 18 March 1971: T. Rex Perform Hot Love while Pan’s People dance on a separate stage.

From the old blog, Wednesday, 21 April 2010:

Here’s a little vintage Pan’s People from TOTP in 1971. It’s a performance by T. Rex in the studio, with Pan’s People giving more of a supporting performance than a full dance routine. Well worth watching nonetheless. Those knitted (or is it crochet?) bikini tops are just so 1971.

Pan’s People – Until You Come Back To Me

Top of the Pops, 14 March 1974: Pan’s People dance to Aretha Franklin’s Until You Come Back To Me.

From the old blog, Saturday, 5 July 2014:

We’ve already had a grainy, low-quality black & white version of this classic Pan’s People routine on the blog for a while. But now, thanks to my anonymous benefactor, here’s a full colour version. Pan’s People dance to Aretha Franlin’s Until You Come Back To Me on Top of the Pops, 14 March 1974.

Still not perfectly picture quality, but a big improvement. Those posh frocks certainly benefit from the restored colour.

Thanks again to my anonymous donor.

What beautifull fabric on those dresses.
The color version really shows just what shade of green louise in wearing.
Thanks for posting this and the others. A job well done OFTDs

Pan’s People – Great Balls of Fire

A Pan’s People routine from Georgie Fame & Alan Price’s TV Show The Price of Fame on 20 November 1969. It’s the early Andi/Flick version of PP, dancing in classic early-seventies see-through yellow outfits, while Georgie & Alan sing and play Great Balls of Fire, and the titles roll.
