Zoo — I’ll Find My Way Home

TOTP 17 December 1981 Sue Menhenick (nominally as a member of Zoo) dances to I’ll Find My Way Home by Jon and Vangelis.

From the old blog, Sunday, 7 November 2010:

Sue Menhenick was the only dancer to be a member of four Top of the Pops dance groups: Starting in Pan’s People in 1974, she went on to be a member of the short-lived Ruby Flipper in 1976: when they became Legs & Co. later that year, Sue was an important part of the new dance group, staying until their last appearance in October 1981. Sue made her final appearance in December 1981, cradited as a member of replacement group Zoo, dancing solo to Jon & Vangelis’ I’ll Find My Way Home.

Thanks again to Pan’s Rugby Legs for contributing this clip.

So sad to think this was the last time we would see this beautiful woman dancing on tv again. She made thursday nights between 1974 to 1981 something to look foward to.

Zoo – Deutscher Girls

Top of the Pops $ March 1982: Zoo dance to Deutscher Girls by Adam and the Ants (choreography by Flick Colby).

Just occasionally, Legs & Co.’s successor dance group would get a chance to give their cheerleaders-amongst-the-audience stuff a rest and do some proper dancing. Here they dance to Deutscher Girls, which in my memory was an older Adam Ant recording re-released by a greedy record company too cash in on his sudden chart success, hence the lack of his signature tribal drums and twangy guitar sound.

Anyway the lederhosen and alpine hat parts of the costume seem fairly straightforwadly German, to go along with the songs subject matter: but string vests? Surely if the have any nationality associated with them it’s the Brit abroad, on a sunkissed beach, along with rolled-up trouser legs and a knotted hanky on the head.

Still, an energetic and enjoyable performance.
