Top Of The Pops, 22 January 1981:
Legs & Co. dance to Don’t Stop The Music Yarborough & Peoples
Here’s a puzzle: all this shortbread-tin highland gear for a song with no obvious Scottish connection. I thought this might have been one of those weeks where Legs & Co.’s intended dance number confounded expectations, and by not going up the charts, lost the right to be performed under TOTP’s rules, leading to a last minute switch of song. But consulting the official chart archive, I found no such song with a kiltie theme; or even a Scottish performer. So I’m stumped. Jings.
Anyway these mini-kilts, while not at all authentic, are so charming: and they allow us to determine (if we needed any more proof), that Legs & Co. are not true Scotsmen.
Update: Improved quality, BBC4 repeat version.
